UMG and Apple Corps Ltd. recently released “Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” from the forthcoming expanded Special Edition of The Beatles‘ landmark 1965 album Rubber Soul.
Recorded during the Rubber Soul sessions, “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out” were intended for release as a standalone double A-side single and were kept separate from the album.
“Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” offers a rare glimpse into the earliest stages of the song, capturing John Lennon and Paul McCartney working together at John’s home, Kenwood, in Weybridge, Surrey. At this stage, the iconic riff that would come to define “Day Tripper” had yet to be written.
“Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” is included in the forthcoming Rubber Soul Special Edition, newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell. The expanded collection opens the studio doors on the making of Rubber Soul, bringing together 24 early session recordings, including 20 previously unreleased takes and three previously unreleased home demos, alongside the album’s new stereo mix, original mono mix, original Capitol U.S. album version and the contemporary “Day Tripper” / “We Can Work It Out” single. Following the release of “Michelle(Take 1)” at the time of the Special Edition announcement, “Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” is the latest recording to be made available ahead of the release on October 2.
The Rubber Soul Special Edition will be released on October 2nd via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe and is available to pre-order now across multiple LP, CD and Blu-ray formats here.
“Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” features on both the Super Deluxe and Deluxe editions. In an announcement made earlier this month, 3 Savile Row, the location of their iconic rooftop concert, is to be made into the first official fan experience, opening in 2027. Looking ahead, an eagerly anticipated four-film Beatles cinematic event is set for release in April 2028.
Boston will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their self-titled debut album with a definitive reissue planned for the second quarter of 2027.
Tom Scholz has teamed with Impex Records for the release, which will be available as a black double-LP, a limited-edition metallic pearl gold double-LP and an SACD/hybrid disc.
The reissue will feature long-lost, previously unreleased demos that Scholz originally presented to record labels before Boston signed with Epic Records. Scholz restored and remastered the recordings with Boston guitarist Gary Pihl.
The black vinyl edition will include the original album and a bonus 12-inch EP containing the demos, along with a booklet featuring an essay by music historian Chuck Granata and historic photographs. The limited pearl gold edition, restricted to 2,500 copies, will additionally include a poster and Scholz’s signature guitar pick.
Released in August 1976, Boston spent 132 weeks on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 3. Its signature hit “More Than A Feeling” reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The anniversary edition is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2027, with an exact release date yet to be announced.
Multiple Grammy Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Nile Rodgers & CHIC will perform at the 20th annual DKMS Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York on October 15.
The evening’s program includes a live performance from Joseph Gordon, principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.
Nile Rodgers shares, “I’m so honored to be part of this momentous anniversary for such an essential, lifesaving organization. For decades, DKMS has transformed lives and given hope. We look forward to celebrating the donors, patients, and supporters whose generosity and commitment make this vital work possible.”
DKMS is a non-profit organization to fight blood cancer and blood disorders.
This year’s gala will highlight the remarkable and uplifting journey of Ezra, an 11-year-old from California who received a life-saving stem cell transplant, and his donor, Dallas Wilson, a Nashville-based country and pop songwriter-producer.
Proceeds from the evening will directly support DKMS’s mission of saving lives by registering stem cell donors, providing patients in low and middle-income countries with access to transplantation, and advancing research and development in blood cancer treatment. For ticket information, visit www.DKMS.org/gala.
“Twenty years ago, we came together in New York with a powerful belief: that every patient battling blood cancer deserves the chance to find a matching donor,” says Katharina Harf, Chairman of DKMS Global. “As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the DKMS Gala, I am deeply grateful to the extraordinary community of donors, patients, families, and supporters whose compassion has made so many second chances at life possible. Tonight reminds us not only of how far we have come, but of all we can still achieve together.”
Legendary rock n’ roll band Bachman-Turner Overdrive have announced the schedule for their 2027 “No Speed Limit Tour.”
The tour, which is set to kick off with a show at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida on January 7th, will include stops in Nashville, San Antonio, Tucson, Lancaster, Wheeling, Davenport and more. The final concert of the tour is scheduled to take place on March 20th at Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton, Minnesota.
BTO founder member Randy Bachman will revive with the group following a successful summer tour with Burton Cummings.
“I was a rock n’ roll child at 14 after quitting classical violin and seeing Elvis on TV,” Bachman said. “I feel fortunate and amazed to tour the first half of 2026 with Burton Cummings as The Guess Who – it’s exciting to see all the zillions of fans everywhere grooving once again to those hits. And now, I also get to tour across the U.S. with BTO as we announce our No Speed Limit Tour for next year! I’m thankful to all the rockers who keep on rockin’ and inspire me!”
