The Rolling Stones have announced their new single, “Jealous Lover,” will be released on Friday, June 26.
The track is the latest to be unveiled from their forthcoming studio album, Foreign Tongues, due for release on July 10 via Polydor/Universal Music.
“Jealous Lover” offers another compelling example of the band’s remarkable ability to move effortlessly between musical styles. Following the upbeat pop-rock energy of previous single “In The Stars,” the new track embraces a soulful R&B groove, anchored by a captivating falsetto lead vocal from Mick Jagger.
“Jealous Lover” combines infectious melodies, rich musicianship and sharp lyrical observations. Jagger delivers a pointed warning to an over-inquisitive lover, bringing humour, attitude and vivid imagery to the song’s narrative.
The track is powered by expressive guitar work from Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. The rhythm section of Darryl Jones on bass and Steve Jordan on drums and percussion provides a deep and assured groove, while longtime friend and collaborator Steve Winwood adds distinctive Rhodes and organ textures. Additional instrumentation from producer Andrew Watt and keyboardist Matt Clifford further enhances the song’s warm, soulful sound.
“Jealous Lover” highlights the chemistry and creativity that continue to define The Rolling Stones more than six decades into their career, blending classic influences with a fresh and contemporary approach.
Legendary music producer Clive Davis, dubbed “the man with the golden ears,” passed away at the age of 94, at his Manhattan home on Monday (June 21), according to a social media post from his family.
Davis’ family said Davis was “a towering figure whose influence changed music forever” as well as “the man who led our family with grace, generosity, and kindness.”
Davis was reportedly hospitalized in late May for a respiratory issue and discharged earlier this month.
Davis, who was instrumental in steering Columbia, Arista and J Records to the peak of the pop music business, told CNN in 2013 that he was thrust into music. “Never knowing I had a natural ear and gift for music that,” he said, “would become the passion of my life.”
He produced the works of iconic musicians including Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel and Santana.
Joplin was Davis’ first major signing. In his memoir The Soundtrack of my Life, Davis described Joplin’s stage presence as “not conventionally beautiful,” but “her body seemed to vibrate with the modulations of her voice, which struck with equal impact whether she was wailing at the top of her lungs or delivering an intimate whisper.”
The Canadian singer – who fronted American jazz-rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears – died on Tuesday evening, his publicist Eric Alper confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement, Alper said Clayton-Thomas died peacefully on 24 June at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. His cause of death has not been made public.
“One of the most recognizable voices of his generation, Clayton-Thomas sang the hell out of every song he touched, soaring and sunny one moment, a deep and somber shade of blue the next,” the statement continued. “Over a career that carried him from the streets of Toronto to the stage at Woodstock and beyond.”
Clayton-Thomas launched his music career in the 1960s, performing in Toronto before joining The Shays. The group released its debut album, David Clayton Thomas and the Shays à Go-Go, in 1965.
He later relocated to New York City, where he auditioned for Blood, Sweat & Tears and went on to become the band’s frontman. The group released its self-titled second album in 1968, winning five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 before returning in 1974. He departed for a second time in 1981, although the break proved short-lived as he rejoined in 1984 for a further 20-year stint.
During his career, the hitmaker achieved numerous milestones, including induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1996. His 1969 signature hit, Spinning Wheel, was also inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007. Clayton-Thomas is survived by his daughters, Ashleigh Clayton-Thomas and Christine Graham.
