The Rolling Stones have released Foreign Tongues, the legendary rock band’s latest studio album and a follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning Hackney Diamonds.
The 14-track album features new songs including “Jealous Lover,” “In the Stars,” and opening track “Rough and Twisted,” along with a cover of Amy Winehouse‘s “You Know I’m No Good.”
Recorded in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in London, the album reunites Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood with producer Andrew Watt. Longtime collaborators Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan also contributed.
At the same time, the album includes a posthumous appearance by late drummer Charlie Watts on “Hit Me In The Head,” recorded during one of his final studio sessions before he died in 2021.
The album also features guest appearances from Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Reflecting on the recording process, Jagger said, “I loved doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion from everyone.”
Richards added, “The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
