legendary singer-songwriter Carly Simon<\/strong> has announced that she will release a new album, Comes In Waves<\/em>, her first new record of original songs in almost eighteen years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon announced that Comes In Waves<\/em> will be out via Irish Records. She wrote and recorded the 12-track album mostly at her Martha’s Vineyard home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon, who co-wrote and co-produced the album with David Spencer<\/strong>, also released the record’s first single “Howl.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“‘Howl’ lives in that space between betrayal and forgiveness, where anger has to be voiced before it can be released,” Simon shared. “It’s about letting the frustration out so it doesn’t sit and simmer. The song begins in anger, but it moves toward forgiveness, and speaks to any situation where trust has been broken.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming album got its title from “Slowly,” a song centered on patience, return, and emotional renewal. Simon enlisted John Fort\u00e9<\/strong>, as well as her son Ben<\/strong> for the project. Her daughter Sally<\/strong> contributed vocals and created the cover artwork for the single.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comes In Waves<\/em> is Simon’s first album of original material since 2008’s This Kind of Love<\/em>. In 2009, she released Never Been Gone<\/em>, which featured a selection of acoustic versions of her own work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
