His family announced that the musician passed away on Friday (24.04.26) in his native Trinidad, marking the end of a career that helped define one of Britain’s most successful soul groups of the 1970s.

Wilson’s daughter shared the news in an emotional Facebook post, writing that her father “left us today, April 24th 2026,” and adding that he “left a lot of music behind… forever and ever.”

She described their final conversations as deeply meaningful, saying he had recently asked for prayers and expressed a sense of peace about his passing. She wrote: “The peace that I have is knowing that his soul escaped. He is in and at peace.”

Wilson’s son Danny paid tribute to his father in a heartfelt message, calling the weekend “emotional” and praising his dad’s relentless dedication to songwriting.

He revealed that old diaries from the early 1970s showed just how hard Wilson worked to get his music heard.

He wrote: “The knock backs, the interviews, the touring, the radio shows, the meticulous documenting of record sales… all the pressures of what was a cut-throat music industry in the 70s.”

Danny said he cherished the memory of reading through those diaries with his father during a family visit last year.

A cause of death is not known at this time.

Born in Trinidad, Wilson moved to the UK as a young man and began pursuing music in the early 1960s, first as a solo act in 1964, when he released his debut single Yes I Do on Decca Records.

His life changed in 1969 when he teamed up with vocalist Errol Brown to form Hot Chocolate. The band went on to break new ground for Black British artists on the US charts, carving out a distinctive place in pop and soul history.

Hot Chocolate scored global success with a string of hits, most famously the 1975 classic You Sexy Thing, which Wilson co-wrote. The track became a defining anthem of the decade and remains one of the most recognisable songs in British pop culture.

Wilson departed Hot Chocolate in 1975, releasing two albums, I Like Your Style and Catch One.

The tour will start in Glasgow before hitting Manchester, Leeds, Wolverhampton and then London for its grand finale at the British Airways ARC.

2026 celebrates the 45th anniversary of two of the band’s most groundbreaking albums, Bad Reputation and I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll. To mark this milestone, the band will be releasing to-be-announced special edition product pieces, content and other exclusives.

Live At The Ritz NYC 1981, a contemporaneous show to this era, was released on vinyl for the first time on Record Store Day.

ZZ Top launched the first leg of The Big One! Tour in March. In addition to their U.S. dates, they are heading to Europe in June and July and Mexico and South America in November.

The melodic song from the British-American rock band’s 14th studio album, Tango in the Night, released in 1987, is ranked at No. 188 on the chart dated April 18.

The song was streamed 9.6 million times globally in the tracking week ending on April 9, according to Luminate.

In recent years, “Everywhere” was used as the soundtrack for Chevrolet and PayPal ads.

The song was written by Christine McVie, who also performed lead vocals.

The single peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. In the United Kingdom, “Everywhere” peaked at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart and is certified 6× platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.

“Everywhere” also reached No. 1 in Belgium and on the Canadian adult contemporary chart and became a top-five hit in several other countries.

“Everywhere” marks the fourth song by Fleetwood Mac to have found a place on the Global 200.

The other songs are “Dreams,” “Landslide” and “The Chain”.

Rodgers has a long history with Duran Duran. He remixed their 1984 single “The Reflex,” which became their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to be their biggest-selling single. Rodgers also produced the track “The Wild Boys,” which appeared on their 1984 live album, Arena, and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

He also co-produced their fourth studio album, 1986’s Notorious, and contributed to several other Duran Duran albums, including 2024’s Astronaut, 2015’s Paper Gods and 2023’s Danse Macabre.
