Music Icon Auction

Posted on 18 June 2021 by Brian Walsh

An auction of music items related to icons like Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Elton John and Prince raised about $5 million.

The three-day auction organized by Julien’s Auctions sold a series of signed six-strings, artist-played electric guitars, music memorabilia and some rare pieces of artwork.

Cobain’s self-portrait caricature went for $281,250, far above the expected net of $10,000. In the portrait, Cobain is seen playing guitar and he signed the art piece “Kurdt Kobain Rock Star.”

A blue Cloud guitar owned by Prince received a winning bid of $281,250, nearly five times its original estimate of $60,000.

Meanwhile, a red Yamaha Elton John Signature Series C-1 Baby Grand Piano signed by John, along with a matching high-gloss red bench, sold for $150,000. The signed, handwritten lyrics by Bernie Taupin for John’s hit single “Candle in the Wind” sold for $76,800. A black jersey and net bodysuit and matching black motorcycle jacket, which Cher wore in the music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time” sold for $115,200.

A Ludwig drum kit custom designed by Alex Van Halen and played during Van Halen’s 1980 Invasion Tour was sold for $230,400, compared to the initial estimate of $200,000-$300,000.

Legendary singer and former leader of the Supremes, Diana Ross is set to release her first new single in over 15 years.

Titled “Thank You,” the fresh track follows the singer’s 2006 studio album, I Love You, which consisted entirely of cover songs, except the title track, “I Love You (That’s All That Really Matters).”

“My new single is coming June 17,” Ross wrote on Twitter, releasing a short teaser of the song. “To You, For You, From Me.”

In March of this year, Ross admitted to having been working on new music, writing, “I miss performing soo much, I am glad I am recording new music and songs in my home studio, this makes me happy, coming soon!”

Dee Snider

Posted on 18 June 2021 by Brian Walsh

Dee Snider and his family’s appearance on the syndicated television game show “Celebrity Family Feud” will air this weekend on ABC.

The Twisted Sister frontman and his family had wrapped filming for the TV show in March. The episode will be broadcast on Sunday, June 20 at 8 pm ET.

It will be the first time a heavy metal/rock family will be appearing on the “Celebrity Family Feud” show.

Speaking about the TV show appearance on Twisted Sister bassist Mark “The Animal” Mendoza’s Facebook Live show “22 Now,” Snider said, “We kicked ass and we represented. I remember we were kind of debating, like, do we go in and treat it like it’s a joke… you know what I mean? Just like a big goof out of it, or do we take it seriously… and they expect us to be a joke.”

“So we wanted to go in there and go for the gold. So I can’t say how it went other than to say we kicked ass. That I can say,” he added.

In the show, Snider and his family will be going up against NFL Hall of Famer and current co-host of “Fox NFL Sunday” Terry Bradshaw and his family.
