Benefit Concert

Posted on 25 April 2021 by Brian Walsh

The National Museum of African American Music will host a benefit concert featuring special tribute performances in honor of Black music icons on June 17.

During this live streamed event, the NMAAM will present the coveted Rhapsody and Rhythm award to the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson and Quincy Jones.

The Nashville-based museum’s 7th annual “Celebration of Legends” concert is part of a three-day celebration of Black Music Month to be held at the recently opened Nashville venue and sponsored by Amazon.

On June 18, artists, industry leaders and culture creators will converge in Nashville for the first State of Black Music Summit. This event will feature panels and dynamic discourse exploring the intersections of black music and culture.

The NMAAM will officially commemorate the success of the museum’s opening with a special dedication ceremony and confirm the museum space as a national cultural institution and authority in Black music on June 19.

On the same day, the NMAAM will host a block party style outdoor event, featuring live music performances, food, and stations from its community partners.
